The world was not created once upon a time.
The world is constantly being created millions of times every second;
and it will always continue to do so.
~ Buddhist Teaching
One of the main reasons we suffer in our lives is because we don’t see the world clearly—exactly as it is.
Most believe they see what actually exists. They believe there is an objective reality. But the fact, is that there is no such thing as an objective reality for you or me.
All our realities are subjective. Subjective to so many things that have been conditioned into us. More than we can begin to count:
- Cultural conditioning
- Parental teaching and example
- DNA and genetics
- Socialized mind
- School system
- Organized religion
- Collective values
- Socially programed likes and dislikes
The list is endless.
Through these filters and more we project our wants and expectations upon the world.
We see the world not as it is. We see the world through the filters of what we believe it “should be.”
One of the main reasons we suffer in the world is
because we don’t see the world clearly. Exactly as it is.
~ The Buddha
We tend to see the world as a predator. One in which there is constant attack, defense, and being attacked.
A world in which we must constantly defend ourselves.
Being completely honest, how many times have you seen and interpreted the world we live in right now in the way described?
What if there is no predator?
What if there is nothing to protect or defend?
The identity you’ve built for yourself is nothing.
Nothing more than an artificial interpretation of imagination and memory.
What if the identity you’ve built as “you” is artificial? Can you imagine that for a moment?
What if your “identity” is nothing more than a faulty interpretation of events and experiences seen through the muddled lens of all the things previously discussed and more?
If you can imagine this, as at least a possibility, then the only thing you ever attempt to defend is not even true!
Neither is the predator.
We are not punished for our sins, but by them.
It’s not an external thing visited upon us by God or fate.
It’s an internal change we have wrought upon ourselves.
Each bad choice diminishes us in a particular way,
just as each good one adds to us.
~ Dante Alighieri
In the Hindu tradition they state that the greatest sin is “Avidya.” Avidya from the Sanskrit is defined as “ignorance.”
The good news is that ignorance can be cured. It’s not easy. It’s not supposed to be easy. If it were easy than everyone would see clearly and live happy, healthy, wealthy, and fulfilling lives.
The first step is to realize that your internal experience is creating your external experience.
When you see clearly, you realize what must change.
Your results are a reflection of you.
If you want your results to change, you must change.
