Are You Really Committed?

Don’t wish for an easier life, that’s illusion.
Wish for greater capacity and capability
to get through the challenges life brings

Let’s face it, if you’re not facing massive challenges then you’re not taking massive action.

You see, those who do great things in the world don’t have easier lives, they have more challenging and complex lives.

Now please understand, not the complexity of the masses, who are dabbling in a multitude of things. Those who pursue mastery pick their one thing and give it everything they have.

Those who choose to bring their greatness
into the world don’t attempt to do everything.
They do their One Thing; and work toward a level of mastery.

But these rare breed do have the complexity of running and operating at Mach 10 while handling all the intricacies of their business. No small task.

When I was running a multimillion dollar company, with 35 full time team members, it was complex. Add to that, juggling these complexities while being on the road over 250 days per year.

The legal issues, employment issues, management and leadership issues, and not to mention the overhead, where all daunting. Often exhausting.

Many of my friends and family were telling me I “worked too hard.” My response to them was, “Maybe I’m just inspired and committed.”

The forces of disempowerment, negativity, and darkness are
not taking a day off. How can I afford to?

You see, I don’t believe there is anything as “working too hard.” When you clearly know why you’re here, and what you’re here to accomplish, you give your whole self to it.

Working Hard or Hardly Working? Learn the difference here.

You work hard, but it’s hardly work. You’re doing what you love. You’re doing what you’re here to do.

When your work is purpose and contribution centered,
there’s no such thing as working too hard.
Those who believe you work too hard
are just inspired and committed too little.

Please be prepared that when you commit yourself fully and completely to your Magnificent Obsession two things happen:

  1. Most will not understand your passion and obsession. They’ll tell you to slow down, smell the roses, become more ‘balanced’ (whatever the hell that means), or call you a workaholic.

It’s okay.

If people tell you that you work too hard,
or that you’re a workaholic, it’s okay.
Just realize that they haven’t yet found
their purpose and place in the universe.

Take this as a sign that you’re onto something great.

  1. Please realize, you’ll never reach a place of perfect business Nirvana where you “have it all together” and “you’re on top of everything.” Just the opposite. The harder you run the harder you’ll have to run. The faster you travel the faster you’ll have to adjust.

If everything seems to be under control,
you’re just not going fast enough.
~ Mario Andretti

So take misunderstanding from others, as well as life and business challenges, as a direct sign that you are on the right path.

You have to work like your time is short;
and realize that someone or something
is going to take it all away sooner than you would like.

I once asked my teacher don Jose Luis, “How do you know if you’re on the right path?” He answered, “Santiago, you’re on the right path when you don’t feel prepared to take it. For if you feel prepared, you don’t have to become anything more. If you don’t feel prepared, you must be open to the becoming.”

You know you’re on the right path
when you don’t feel prepared to take it.
~ Jose Luis Herara

Enough said.
