Lead and Live Fully

It’s not death that a man should fear,
but he should fear never beginning to live.
~ Marcus Aurelius

I’m sitting here with my wife Bersabeh (Bear) and our double espressos this morning; and we’re contemplating life.

We do this often.

My morning routine (which Bersabeh has adopted and tweaked for herself) is what I call “Prime Objective.”

The Prime Objective in life is first and foremost yourself—taking care of you. Only when you take care of you first do you have what’s necessary to take care of your business and others.

You can measure the quality of your life by the quality of your relationships.
And your primary relationship must be with yourself.

During this early morning time, we do a variety of things to ensure that we’re in a good space prior to beginning our day.

One of those practices is a contemplation, meditation, or a mindfulness practice.

Maybe someday I’ll explore the details of Prime Objective and all it contains with you, but that’s not the primary objective of this blog.

If you master your morning you master your life.
The way you start says a lot about how you will finish.

The primary question I believe we all should continually contemplate is “Am I living?”

And at the end of each day, “Did I truly live today?”

Read here to know the difference between truly living and merely existing?

The most important question to ponder is “Am I really living?”
Existing, just going through the motions, and truly living are vastly different.

The number one fear in the world is the fear of death.

But death is a given. At least physically anyway.

Many people are so concerned about avoiding death that they completely forget to live.

In my experience, the question “Am I going to die?” is a complete waste of time and energy.

You are.

So am I.

Like it or not you began your journey to physical death the moment you were born.

The moment you were birthed into this life, you signed an unconscious
contract to die. Make sure you really live in the process.

I appreciate the approach the great Stoic philosophers and the Toltecs took to life and living…

When you constantly remember your death, it just might constantly remind you that time is short; and you had better live!

The challenge I find in most people I coach, is that they “think they have time.” Or they’ll do it “someday.” Or they’ll do it “when this, that or the other is completed.”

But regardless of whether we like it or not, there’s not one power in this entire universe that will guarantee you’ll even wake up tomorrow!

There’s not one single power in the universe that will guarantee you even wake
up tomorrow. It’s time to stop procrastinating and hesitating and get busy living.

The great leader and philosopher Marcus Aurelius stated, “It’s not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live.”

I choose to live and live fully until there’s no more life to give.

I pray you will do the same.

Risk. Grow. Challenge yourself.

These are the qualities that make life the Grand Adventure it’s meant to be.

Invest in the “most important” things with your time, energy, money and effort.

Living does not mean that everything is fun and rainbows and roses. In fact, it’s often just the opposite. But the wise understand that without the emptiness of the sky and the depth of the valley there are no mountaintops.

There is no mountaintop without the emptiness of the sky against which it
stands; and the depth of the valley over which it rises. Such is life.

Something to ponder; and I trust you will.

We begin to live when we make the most important thing the most important thing. The biggest battles we fight are in the depths of our own consciousness and lack of awareness.

The biggest battles we fight are in the depths of our own consciousness.
