Adding More Life to Your Years #3

If you can’t live long enough, you won’t be able to do enough.
Live long. Make an impact!

Let’s continue our exploration of extending healthy, vibrant life. If you’re just joining and you want to catch up on the entire Leadership series, Three Strategies to Thrive in the Future go here

For every single year you live, science and technology are finding a way to
extend your life for yet another year.

Please understand that it’s not just about living longer at your current state of energy and awareness. What good is that?

The Universe has one objective. Fuller expansion, experience, and expression.
Life is wanting to grow, emerge, and express more fully through you.

The reason you have the responsibility to live as long and as healthy as possible is to make a positive impact on the world.

Do you want to make an impact and a difference? Start by reading it here.

To bring your gifts of service and value.

Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of life.

Providing tremendous value and service takes time.

It takes a lot of years to wake up to a higher broader state of awareness.
Therefore, you don’t have an “opportunity” to live long.
You have a responsibility to live as long as possible
to impact the world in your own unique way.

Okay, we touched on diet last week.

Obviously, none of these treatises are by any means exhaustive.

Let’s touch this week on the topic of working out and exercise.

Look, the bottom line is that the muscles are meant to be used. Period.

Our current lifestyles are making our bodies become weak, overweight and tired.

Don’t let your lifestyle make you weak. You must stress and stretch yourself
to become strong and access your potential.
Stress is not the enemy.
The enemy is lack of recovery.

Osteoporosis affects 55% of the American population age 50 and over in America; and it’s higher in women than men.

There are dietary and lifestyle choices that bring on this degeneration; and one of the leading causes of loss in bone density and strength is lack of loading the skeletal muscles.

A regular weight training regime will positively impact bone degeneration if not solve it altogether.

Heart disease is the #1 killer in the world and has been for the last 15 years.

Once again dietary and lifestyle choices contribute to this; and a regular workout regime can thwart this life thief, while simultaneously strengthening your primary heart muscle.

In addition, studies at Emory University prove that heavy weight training, even for those in their 70’s who had never lifted before, extends healthy life by an energetic and vibrant 7 years!

The old paradigm was that running was the key to health.
The new science proves that weightlifting is the fountain of youth.

Research proves that runners contract more diseases than non-runners. If you think about our ancestors, the only time they ran was from danger or after food. Never for long periods of time; and certainly not on concrete!

Running and long cardio create tremendous amounts of free radicals and acidity. Both accelerate aging versus deaccelerate.

Obviously, I’m not a physiologist. So, check with your doctor before taking up any weight training program. But understand that the latest research says hard and fast training is the way to go.

I’m a fan of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Going all out for maximum output in minimum time. Then recovering and quickly going again.

Stress is not the enemy. The enemy is lack of recovery.

If you were to observe me in the gym, you’ll see me quickly moving from one exercise to the next. Going to complete failure on each set for a particular body part, then quickly moving onto another exercise for an opposing body part.

This not only exhausts the muscle but it also works the heart without having to do a lot of long, boring and acid producing “cardio work.”

I ripped out and burned the pages called traditional cardio in my book, a long time ago. Remember as discussed previously, the free radicals and acidity produced are to be avoided at all costs.

That is if you want to live long and vibrant.

Again, I’m no exercise physiologist. I’ve just studied the research and practiced it for going on 3 decades now. This is my own experience and what works for me.

Do your own research and work, but at the end of the day, get your body moving!

If you want to have more energy you must give more energy.
You can’t pour energy into a vessel that’s not giving it off.

More to come…
